We sharpening all makes and types of scissors for the Hairdressing profession and Barbers, Veterinary practices, material/fabric, Industrial and domestic. We offer a fast turnaround service, through our website and the mail. We provide a mobile service to attend your premises. and a drop in service for you to bring your scissors to us. Please contact us for more information regarding any of our services, and areas in which we attend.

Upon receiving your scissors, they will be checked and accessed and pre-tested.  All scissors including convexed, left handed etc will then be cleaned polished and then sharpened, balanced/aligned, and tested. All convexed premium hairdressing scissors eg Japanese, are designed with a knife edge blade and not bevelled edged for ultimate sharpness and precision, at The Sharpening Company we use the Japanese style and technique of sharpening these scissors to keep them as they are designed.  

All prices include return P&P and VAT with first class delivery which has a standard insurance cover of £39 for the return postage. If you wish to have extra insurance cover on your return postage of £500 please add an extra £5.40 if you are sending a cheque, this option is available at the bottom of this page if you are paying through the website, we would recommend this for higher valued scissors or larger quantities. For all orders of £80 or more, we will cover the return postage, this will be 1st class recorded delivery with the appropriate insurance cover and depending on value and could be next day delivery. For higher valued items and heavier weights, these will be sent by courier.    

For any type of scissor that needs corrugating/serrations please confirm when sending your order this is normally done on one blade and needs to be clarified as some scissors come with this as new but not always required.

Hairdressing/Beauty scissors  

Standard sharpening and service for bevel edged scissors, includes:  £9.50

  • check balance and free-fall
  • check blade set
  • grinding and polishing of both blades                                          
  • replacement of stopper if necessary
  • clean and lubricate
  • test.

Premium convexed scissors: £11.50

  • Removal, and replace of pivot screw and any washers if necessary

  • full polish of any imperfections on all parts

  • Polishing of outer side of blade on scissors and inside blade (edge)

  • Honing by hand of inside of blade on a water stone 

Full refurbishment of any type, please add to sharpening cost:  -  £3.00

  • removal, and replace of pivot screw and any washers if necessary

  • full polish of any imperfections on all parts

  • Included replacement of finger grips, if needed

  • Polishing of outer side of blade on convex/premium scissors and inside blade (edge)

  • Honing by hand of inside of blade on a water stone  

Thinners/Texturisers, all types for Hairdressing, dog grooming etc  - £6.50

Convexed premium Thinners/Texturisers, rather than bevelled they have a knife edge. These scissors are sharpened and honed differently as with the convexed scissors they are polished on the outer side of the blade and hand finished on the inner edge with a Japanese water stone. £7.50
